I was obsessed with Dateline on NBC as a kid. Weird, I know, but I appreciate good storytelling. I joined the news team at my high school in Overland Park, KS, then studied Broadcast Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
After graduation, I turned an internship into a job in the consumer investigative unit at WRAL in Raleigh, NC as an assistant. My first on-air job was in Macon, GA. I jumped to Louisville, KY, then Miami, FL, New Orleans, LA, and finally Washington, D.C.
I turn lessons from the field into curriculum for my journalism students at Florida International University's DC Bureau. It's been a pleasure to watch my undergraduate and graduate students hone their skills and land jobs after graduating!
I'm passionate about equity and bringing awareness to women's health issues. From my experience with fibroids to a traumatic child birth experience, I'm determined to use my platform to help close the gaps in health outcomes for minorities.
